Feeling thankful

As a primary school teacher and Mum, the start of every school year is an incredibly busy one. There are labels to make, routines to set in place both at school and at home, plans to write and just so much to do. In the midst of being so busy it is so easy to get bogged down with it all and let the mounting to do lists swamp you completely. I don’t mind sharing with you that six years ago, at this time of year, work pressures  amongst other things did get to me and I had a period of time where everything became too much and depression and anxiety took over. Thankfully, with a lot of support from family, friends and counsellors I managed to drag myself out of the darkness. The memory of that time still lurks at the back of my mind, especially at this time of the year when the days begin to shorten and the darker evenings and mornings take over. That is why I am so careful now to count my blessings and be thankful for all the good things I have and the good times I experience. I am not particularly religious but I do make sure to say thank you (I’m not quite sure who to, I just send it out there) as I’m a strong believer that giving thanks and being positive breeds more positivity. For that reason I wanted to post about one of the things that I am feeling most thankful for at this moment in time.

I am very fortunate to work 4 days, so that I have a Friday off to get some jobs done and spend some time with our daughter. On my precious Fridays and at the weekend I try to avoid using the car and walk as much as possible and one of my favourite things in the world is to be able to walk to kindergarten to collect Little Miss from her morning session. When I collected her this Friday her little face lit up when she saw the pushchair and not the car. It was so lovely walking along at a leisurely pace, enjoying the sunshine and chatting with her about her morning without being in a rush to be anywhere or get something done. After about 10 minutes she drifted off for a nap and I savoured the sunshine and fresh air. In December she will be 3 and I know the time will come in the not too distant future where she will no longer want to be in the pushchair and so I shall make the most of all of our little pushchair walks until that time comes.

Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Confusion!

After setting up my blog a couple of months ago, I found out that I had chosen a name that already existed as a blog. Whilst I had done some research it obviously was not thorough enough! I was gutted, as I had put it off for quite some time as it was, not being hugely technical and a bit scared of the whole process of blog set up. Anyway, after much deliberation and a lot of procrastination (a couple of months – largely because I really wasn’t sure how to go about changing the blog) I have now made myself sit down and worked out how to register a new domain and change my blog  to A box of allsorts instead of a box of buttons. It still comes up on the tab as a box of buttons but I really haven’t got a clue about how to change that. If anyone has any ideas I would welcome the help.

Anyway, that is hopefully all the techy stuff out of the way, so I can now get on with the more interesting job of posting. I’ve got an awful lot of projects and ideas in the offing, which I am very excited about, so I will post about them very soon. Watch this space…

Here I am!

After having been reading blogs for the last couple of years and wanting to set up my own, I have finally gone and done it. I am completely in awe of some of the amazing blogs I have visited over the last couple of years as I was really unaware of how much time goes into setting one up (If you’re a complete novice like me and need your hand holding every step of the way!) My time is a little limited due to working 4 days a week and only having time to grab when little miss is sleeping so it may take me some time to get to grips with this whole blogging thing but I’m so pleased to have made the first step and dipped my toe into the blogging community.

I am currently very much into crocheting, having crocheted 3 blankets in the last year, with 2 on the go at the moment and a lot more ideas waiting in the wings. In the days to come I will upload pictures of some of my most recent projects so you can have a little peek into my creative ventures. Hopefully it won’t take me too long to work out how to add pictures and jazz this blog up a bit, so for now, hello, thank you for taking time to have a peek at my newbie blog and watch this space…
